One of the big decisions you'll need to make when planning your wedding is who will officiate the ceremony. For some couples, having a friend officiate their wedding is the perfect option. But is it really a good idea? Let's take a look at some of the pros and cons.

Pros:
1. It's more personal. Having a friend officiate your wedding ceremony can add a more personal touch to your big day. This is especially true if your friend is someone who knows you both well and can share a personal story or two about you as a couple.
2. It's often cheaper. If cost is a factor in your decision-making process, then you'll be happy to know that having a friend officiate your wedding ceremony is usually cheaper than hiring a professional officiant.
3. It's more relaxed. One of the great things about having a friend officiate your wedding is that it can help to make the whole experience more relaxed and comfortable for everyone involved. There's no need to worry about following protocol or sticking to tradition; you can just let your friend do their thing and enjoy the moment!

Cons:
1. There's always the possibility that things could go wrong. No matter how well you know your friend, there's always the possibility that they could say something inappropriate or even forget what they're supposed to say altogether. While this is unlikely, it's still something to keep in mind before making your decision. It is also a possibility that an unexpected situation or emergency could cause your friend to be unable to attend your wedding last minute. With a professional officiant, they will have a network of other officiants who could step in if an emergency caused them to be suddenly unavailable on your day.
2. They may not be legally ordained. In order to legally officiate a wedding, your friend will need to be ordained by an authorized body such as the Universal Life Church or the American Marriage Ministries. If they're not already ordained, this could add an extra step (and potentially some extra cost) to the process.
3. You might not have the same relationship after the wedding! It's important to think about what kind of relationship you want with your friend after the wedding day is over before making them responsible for such an important role in your big day. If things don't go as planned, it could put a strain on your friendship moving forward or even cause you to look back on your wedding day with less than fond memories.
